At the center of the enchanting rolling fields, dwelt a young shepherd. His existence was essentially unadulterated, and unsophisticated. His primary duty was to tend to his herd of rams.

Their gentle baas and the murmuring of the wind among the lone tree on the peak were his only co-dwellers. Day upon day, watching over his wards imbued in him a notion of read more tranquil contentment.

However, there were the occasional moments of solitude, when the shepherd boy would yearn for company. In one such instance because of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy conceived a troublesome plan.

Narratives of predators hunting on sheep had long been circulating in the village. So, the boy opted to exploit this fear and played a joke on the villagers.

One afternoon he raced into the village screaming “Wolf! There is a wolf that has taken my sheep!” The scared villagers sprinted up the hills for rescue but saw no beast.

The boy laughed at the puzzle on their faces. This game laughed for a couple of more days. However, one day, a real wolf did come to prey the herd. The shepherd boy ran for help, shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he went back to the town only to be met with a scolding on honesty and the results of crying wolf.

His tale of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the importance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the dangers of crying wolf. Moreover, it emphasizes how trust once lost, is difficult to reclaim. It's a story as pertinent today as it was then.
